Behind the layer of white paper cut out with the shape of the state, there is a dark green, white, and black monoprint created from acrylic paint that includes some words related to places and features of Massachusetts and a reproduction of the state map with boundary lines for each city and town. The image transfer process used to create this layer adds color and texture, and the imperfections are the best part.

3D letters dance across the painted map of Massachusetts, tipped this way and that by hand-assembled paper supports to create dynamic angles and movement. The letters are accented with bits of painted paper in contrasting colors.
