Happy #mapmonday! I was inspired by this table top to coordinate some map colors - these three towns just across the river from Boston, MA are near and dear to me, we've called them all home at different points, and they're also home to dear friends and favorite local businesses, and me!
A little #throwbackthursday to this colorful house portrait I completed in early 2019. I experimented with a few different ways of adding color to the house when I first started making house portraits, and I think this one was my favorite. I used colored paper to represent the two different colors of stucco on the exterior of the house, and then added a gray to approximate the shingles. I mounted the house to a blue watercolor wash to imply sky and reference the ocean the house is near. In the end I typically prefer the understated drama of making the houses entirely out of white paper, but it's always fun to experiment!
Chicago! Chicago is one of those cities with a big personality. I didn't really realize that until I moved away, though. I spent the first 21 years of my life living within a 2-3 hour drive of the city, and visited a handful of times. In the 13 years since moving to the Boston area, we've flown into the city (that weirdo blob in the top-left corner is O'Hare International Airport) once or twice a year, and stopped there to vacation or visit friends almost as often. It's funny how sometimes being too close to something means you don't appreciate it at all.
Are you watching the final episode tonight??? I'm excited for one last chance to see my work gracing the screen in between the incredible crafting and entertaining judging that happens in every episode of @nbcmakingit. I guess since it's the last episode, in a way we all will get a grand send-off from the front porch of the little cottage - see you on the porch?
