The town was officially incorporated in 1797 and named based on the (mistaken) belief that Canton, MA was antipodal to (located across the globe from) Canton, China. Miscalculations aside, Canton is located about 16 miles south of Boston, MA and famous for being the location of the headquarters of Dunkin’ Donuts. It is a well-connected town, at the intersection of several interstates and train lines.
